This adapter works fine, and doesn’t cause any issues with my old Dell 9300 laptop (which would prompt at boot if the supply wasn’t outputting 90W).

However, it seems to put out some interference, as my wireless mouse drops range rapidly if it’s plugged in. The range returns to normal when I switch to a different adapter, so I think it’s probably a shielding issue. Not really a huge deal, as this will be a backup laptop, but it’s worth mentioning.

This replacement charger has a three-pronged connector, and the connection between the wall charger and the power cord seems more secure than it did with my old charger and the two-pronged connector that came with it. So far, I’d rate this product a 5 out of 5 stars, and if anything changes, I’ll update my review.

After 4 days of use, this charger inexplicably quit working – it still powers my laptop but will not charge up the battery. I borrowed a charger from someone I know who also has a Dell D531, and their charger worked just fine with my computer – the battery immediately began charging again. Also, for those of you who are more tech-savvy, here’s the message I received on my computer screen:

Using this charger, the battery status was listed as “online” but there was no mention of “charging.” The battery charge level also remained the same – about 8 percent. As soon as I plugged in my friend’s charger, the battery status changed to “charging” and within a few minutes, the battery charge level had kicked up to 20 percent. (You can find this information on the Power Options icon in the Control Panel on Windows XP. Just click on the battery icon.) So there’s definitely something wrong with this charger, and I’m going to return it to Amazon for a refund.

Update #2: The seller was courteous and prompt in processing a complete refund after I returned the defective charger.

I have an older Inspirion 1525. The adapter looks like the original, fits snuggly in the computer. However, it does not charge the battery. Very disappointed.
