    Asus does know how to make a good motherboard, and this no exception. Quality equipment here all right. Good features, nice looks, and runs well.

    However, it isn’t without it’s faults. This board can be extremely picky about the kind of RAM you want to use, so I’d advise you to check the DRAM qualified vendor’s list before you use or purchase RAM. If you don’t, it’ll be hit or miss, and the board might not POST. This happened with me, and the board wouldn’t work until I reseated the CPU and reset the CMOS. The onboard Asmedia Controller is picky, and I’d recommend you disable it in the BIOS, which, by the way, is excellent, and fairly user friendly. I was able to easily clock my DDR3-1600 RAM up to that speed, as the SPD was detected at 1333 at first.

    I’m using a Phenom II X4 955 which works well, but as I’m still using the stock cooler, runs a little hot. ~45C idle, 65C high load. Regardless, the board works when it’s configured well, and if you’re using the correct kind of RAM, and you’re a tad lucky. But as for how the board performs, it’s fantastic.

    Recommended for the enthusiast.

    I ordered the ASUS Corsshair V 990FX motherboard for a new computer build. Just for reference, I’m using a AMD Hex Core 1100T (3.3 Ghz) processor. 16gb Corsair Vengeance Blue 1600mHZ RAM. EVGA 570 GTX HD video card. 120Gb Corsair GT (red) SSD drive. 1 TB Western DIgital Black Caviar HDD.

    This motherboard is very good quality and was manufactured using high quality components. I’m happy with the layout and had no space issues when installing the peripherals. One thing that I really like about this motherboard is the on board LED’s that indicate whether or not the components (RAM, video card, CPU, LAN connection, etc.) are being recognized. This takes away the guesswork of troubleshooting potentially faulty components, something that can be extremely frustrating when the computer doesn’t start up on the first attempt and you don’t know which component might be faulty. Fortunately, this system loaded the first time I fired it up and I didn’t have any major issues.

    The BIOS menu is very user friendly and offers a host of overclocking options. I’m not really into overclocking since it can shorten the life of the components, but I highly recommend this motherboard to those who do want to overclock. The only option I changed was adjusting the RAM speed to 1600mHZ instead of the default 1333mHZ. I might tinker with the overclocking options later, but for now everything is working well. The system is stable and I’m really pleased with this motherboard. The SATA 3.0 components are all lightning fast. It’s also an ideal motherboard if you want to use multiple video cards. The Corsshair V supports up to three PCIE 2.0 video cards. Also, the onboard HD audio means that you don’t necessarily need a separate video card. As soon as you plug you audio cable(s) into the sound port(s) it should automatically detect.

    On problem that I did have was that I had to reinstall the LAN driver from the CD that was included with the motherbaord. Not sure why it didn’t work the first time, but when I installed Windows 7 and loaded all of the drivers from the included CD there was no LAN network present. Reinstalling the LAN driver fixed it.

    If you’re looking to build a top end gaming system, or if you work with resource heavy applications I highly recommend this motherboard.

    I don’t do the over clocking thing for me the benefit risk ratio isn’t working. in other words what benefit you get from risking screwing up your computer isn’t enough to be justified. Having said that The Asus Crosshair V motherboard is breeze to install and configure. Obviously I’m not an expert at computers and I have to admit I was a little apprehensive upon reading all the attributes of this thing but I had no problem 2 hours after receiving it in the mail having already gotten my Phenom II X6 core CPU I was installing Windows 7 ultimate beginning to setup what is now my world. I’m a disabled Veteran and don’t really go any where so this is my virtual world I am very happy I went this way.
